Ryobi 40V HP Brushless 730 CFM –Leaf Blower Review

Ryobi 730 CFM Blower Delivers Top Tier Power at Unbelievably Low Sounds

While cordless blowers are claimed to be quiet, their quality has improved as performance standards have increased. The Ryobi 40VHP Brushless730 CFM Leafblower claims to have both legit power and very low noise. We tested these claims against other battery powered leaf blowers.

Pros

  • High-tier blowing force
  • It is very quiet for its performance level.
  • Kit includes 2 4.0Ah batteries
  • Flexible nozzle resists damage and can be cut to maximize performance

Cons

Blowing Force

700 CFM was a significant barrier. Ryobi’s HP Brushless blower has now reached 730 CFM. Depending on which nozzle you choose, you can reach speeds up to 190 MPH.

Newton force is used in order to determine the meaning of this number relative to other blowers. We were able to reach 11.3 N at high speeds with a fully charged battery. Turbo enabled us reach 20.0 N.

It gets even better. Our blower’s flexible nozzle can be cut to exchange some airspeed for CFM. When the first section was removed, the total force was 21.7 N.

Only five cordless blowers we’ve tested have hit the 20 N mark, and Ryobi is responsible for two of them. The other is Ryobi’s 40V backpack blower. To date, that’s the most force we’ve seen from any blower out of the box. Only one blower test was more severe. However, we had to use a battery so heavy that we don’t recommend that configuration.

Runtime

We were able to run for 15 minutes and 5 second at high throttle in high and 10 minutes 32 seconds with Turbo activated. This is a bit less than other blowers that we tested. Ryobi’s kit includes two 4.0Ah batteries. Ryobi’s kit has two 4.0Ah batteries. This is significantly more than other high-performance options that only have one.

Noise Level

When you see noise level ratings on blowers, it’s based on an ANSI standard for bystanders. We like to test at our operator’s ear to see what it’s like for the person actually using it. Most battery-powered blowers run more than 80 decibels and the high-performance models top out in the 85 – 88-decibel range.

If you’re used to blowers at that level, you won’t believe how quiet the Ryobi 40V HP Brushless blower sounds at 72 decibels in high and just 76 decibels in Turbo! It’s not just quiet for a high-performance model, it’s quiet compared to nearly every cordless blower we’ve tested.

Based on ANSI tests, the blower has been rated at 57 decibels.

There’s a lot of engineering that goes into making the design that quiet. While it’s only part of the picture, the most obvious sound-dampening comes from the foam you can see from the rear of the blower.
