Reginald VelJohnson and Planters are helping to bring NUTstalgia alive this holiday season
It was much more than a giveaway or music video. It was also about the ultimate 1980s-inspired relationship. If you’re anything like me, and grew up in the 80s, 90s, VelJohnson was a part of your childhood. His time on Family Matters made him the ultimate TV father. We also had the opportunity of asking him questions!
This is Reginal VelJohnson’s insight as we head into the holidays.).
Guilty Foods: What inspired this partnership with Planters and which nuts are your favorite, especially at the holidays?
Reginald VelJohnson: “I’ve always been a fan of Planters and when they approached me about being a part of their retro music video for the holidays, I couldn’t help but say yes! It’s been a while since I’ve had to sing and I always work hard at a song whenever I have to perform it, but the one I sang in “A Nutty Holiday”It was so much fun and upbeat, it was easy to record and really enjoyable. I had a great time making the music video with Planters and hope that it will help bring families together and get them in the holiday spirit this year.”
GE: Are there any snacks or treats with nuts that you enjoy the most?
J: “I love Planters peanuts, I really do. I love the cashew nuts. They’re always a reliably crunchy and a satisfying snack. I also like to heat them up in the microwave so they are nice and toasty when I enjoy them.”
GE: Do you have a favorite snack that helps you get through a long day on set?
J: “The most satisfying snack during the day is a fist full of cashews. The salty kind is what I really enjoy.”
GE: I grew up watching Family Matters and whenever there are reruns I always have to sit down and watch, how do you feel about being such a big part of so many people’s childhoods and the father they look up to?
J: “I think it’s very sweet and nice that people see me as the father type, although I never thought of myself in that role. I appreciate their thoughts of me in that respect.”
GE: What is your favorite holiday movie and what are you snacking on while you watch?
J: “My favorite holiday movie would be Die Hard since everyone claims it’s a Christmas movie. Apart from Die Hard I really enjoy Its a Wonderful Life. Even if I’m in a turkey-induced food coma, I’ll have a bowl of mixed nuts nearby to munch on.”
GE: Do you have any holiday traditions that mean the holidays have arrived for you and your family?
J: “Getting a Christmas treeIt was always my favorite Christmas tradition to decorate it with my family. It was always the most special time ever since I was little and one of my favorite memories.”
GE: What are your favorite holiday treats and snacks?
J: “At my holiday celebrations every year, I always serve Planters nuts to snack on while preparing a deep-fried turkey. Planters’ limited-edition holiday mixes, such as the Holiday Nut Crunch, are my favorite nuts to serve. The mix of sweet and savory is spot on for this time of year.”
With the holiday season here, we feel nostalgic. We love this partnership with Planters, our favorite nuts! Reginald VelJohnson, our favorite TV dad.
